Digital eyestrain

We now spend more time staring at screens than we do asleep.

Screen time has increased at an incredible rate since the introduction of the first iPhone in 2007.

In 2017 it was found that adults in the UK spend, on average,  9.5 hours a day staring at a screen, either for work or for social purposes.

We have not yet evolved to compensate for this massive change in close work, and we are suffering for it.

In 2017 68% of 17-37 year olds surveyed reported symptoms of digital eyestrain

Symptoms of Digital Fatigue or Digital Eyestrain include

  • Tired eyes
  • Headaches
  • Blurred Vision
  • Dry Eyes
  • Light sensitivity
  • Poor Night Vision
  • Fluctuating vision

Prolonged close work requires constant focusing using the muscles in the eyes. If you work any muscle in the body solidly for 9.5 hours a day it is going to start complaining and feeling tired and achy. The eye muscles are no different.

Lenses are available that reduce the strain of  this excessive near vision. We are not going to change these habits and behaviours now, we live in a digital world that is here to stay,  but we can mitigate the discomfort and problems caused by these behaviours.

Even if you don’t need glasses for outdoors or TV you may benefit from these specialist lenses.
