COVID 19 Update no.4

Due to a temporary change in circumstances we are unable to offer emergency or urgent eye-care appointments from 19th May 2020 until further notice. Please be reassured that this is not Covid related but is an urgent matter that cannot be postponed.

Suzi, our Dispensing Optician, is taking up the reins in my temporary absence and is still available for emergency spectacle repairs and for purchase of essential eye-care products and contact lenses. She will be able to give advice on where and how to access emergency eye-care until such time as we are again able to provide this essential service.

Please contact the practice on 01963 34333 or for advice and to make an appointment for repairs or collections.

in other news….

Preparation and planning was already under way for the practice to re-open as soon as we are able to do so safely and in compliance with both Government and Professional body recommendations on safe practice. This planning will continue in my absence and we will rise, phoenix like, from the ashes of this Covid enforced closure.

Whilst we , like many other businesses, have not yet been given a firm date for when we can re-open it looks like this may be at a similar time to hairdressers, barbers and beauty salons.

Optics as we know it will undoubtedly look very different when we are eventually back – we will be ready for this as we have been ready for all other challenges that have been thrown at us in the past 16 years. We will be better than we have ever been. We are embracing change, hard though that may be.

We have taken this time to examine what we do and how we do it. We have taken a really good honest, and sometimes critical, look at why we do things the way that we do them. Is it because it is “how we have always done it”? If so, is that the BEST way to do it?

Projects that were shelved through lack of time to work on them have been dusted down, examined and either rejected or diligently worked on so that, when the time comes, we can launch them as an elegantly packaged “up yours” to Covid’s attempt to destroy us. We are determined that all those who have had their lives affected by Covid 19 will not have suffered in vain.

We cannot change the world alone but we CAN make our part of it brighter and better. They may be small changes and you may not even notice them, but they will be there and we will know that we have done our best in trying times. To quote Dame Anita Roddick “if you think you are too small to make any impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room”

Myself and my staff are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to the practice when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, please stay safe and well, and take this time to plan your rise, phoenix like, into a new and better you.

Sarah Gibson.
